Chris Brown 'bottled' in fight with Drake

Rihanna's ex posts pic of bleeding chin after clash with rapper and his pals in NY nightclub

Chris Brown posted this picture on his Instagram and Twitter account this morning but later removed it.
But then he added a caption that suggested he’d been in a fight that involved bottles and soon rumours of a bloody nightclub brawl with rapper – and fellow ex-boyfriend of Rihanna – Drake hit the internet.
Chris wrote next to the graphic photo: “Bottles? It's nothing! Lol”.
Not really a laugh out loud kind of injury, but Chris is somewhat ‘harder’ than we are

Chris posted this picture after spending the night at Greenhouse club (although others say there were at WIP) in New York, at the birthday of some music industry chap.
Drake – who has been dating Rihanna on and off for the past year – was also at the party and has had beef with Chris in the past, with the pair bitching about each other in the press over the last year or so.
According to Mediatakeout.com, Chris decided to send a bottle of champers over to Drake’s table as a peace offering.

However, it’s claimed that Drake sent it back to Chris, along with the note: “I'm f****** the love of your life, deal with it.”
At this point, Chris apparently went over and did a few swear words before Drake allegedly hit him… with a bottle.
Other US reports claim that rapper Meek Mill was involved (he used to date Rihanna too – this is getting exhausting) and that he was the one who attacked Chris, not Drake.
And Meek Mill tweeted this morning: 'It wasn't me.... (shaggy voice) lol'
What's with all the LOLs? It doesn't seem all that funny to us.

Whatever happened, it’s thought that the bust up was over within seconds and Drake left with his entourage while Chris took himself off to hospital to get this gaping wound stitched up.

Beenie Man No Show For BET 106 & Park?

Just a day before the highly anticipated return of Beenie Man to an American stage, issues regarding the prominent deejay’s visa have once again come of the forefront.

Beenie Man was set to perform alongside Trinidadian-American hip-hop superstar, Nicki Minaj on BET’s 106 & Park in New York on Tuesday. The duo were scheduled to perform their new hit collaboration, Gunshot, the first single off Minaj’s new album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded which will be unveiled on Tuesday.

However, Beenie Man’s management team now claims that the iconic Dancehall artiste cannot meet his performing obligation on the BET show. The ‘King of the Dancehall’ does not own a work permit but does hold a visitor’s visa, which he received last summer and seemed in a good position to carry on with his performance.

But according to media reports, there is some lack of clarity in relation to whether Beenie Man’s performance on a major American television network such as BET would qualify for a royalty distribution, in turn, possibly violating terms of his visitor’s visa. As a result, Beenie Man’s management team refuses to put their client at risk.

Beenie Man last performed on 106 & Park in 2005 and appeared on the show three years prior, alongside Sean Paul."We have been advised that his appearance on BET would be considered as a paid performance because the station has to pay over royalties for live performances, so it would be a clear violation of the terms of his visitor's visa so we decided to not take the risk and comply with the US Embassy," said Beenie Man’s manager, ‘Blue’ Smith in a press release.

Beenie Man to perform alongside Nicki Minaj on BET’s 106 & Park

Dancehall artiste Beenie Man is slated to perform with the Trinidadian-American hip-hop diva Nicki Minaj on stage during this coming Monday April 2, 2012 episode of BET’s 106 & Park. The two have recorded a collaboration called “Gun Shot”, which will be featured on Nicki Minaj's upcoming album and Beenie Man believes this is an indication that dancehall is making a return to the US mainstream market.

This marks Beenie Man’s first performance in the United States since re-acquiring his visa last year. Despite the long wait to perform in America, the ‘King of the Dancehall’ believes that his international reputation has continued to elevate, regardless of that setback.

Beenie Man told the Jamaica STAR that “Even when I lost the visa mi level never drop. Me and Nicki met at Sumfest and from that wi start link up. Suh if my standard did drop she wouldn't work with me, she could have chosen anybody else. Once yuh set your standards high, things like these will happen."

For Beenie Man, his collaboration with Nicki Minaj suggests that Dancehall is finally returning to the international mainstream level that it once was at.

"It has been a while since dancehall has been on the back-burner so it is really a good feeling to be back, this is really a return because we did this before,” he said.

"Dancehall is making an international return, one one cocoa full basket so we give thanks. Rum and Redbull had the world by storm, and I did not get a chance to promote it but now it is a good look."

As a way to return the favor, Beenie Man intends to work with artistes from Lil Wayne’s label, Young Money Records for his next album.

Beenie Manis no stranger to the 106 & Park stage, having appeared on the show in 2002 with Sean Paul and in 2005. For the prominent deejay, Monday’s performance could re-open doors for him on the international scene.

"This performance will put me back on the visual international scene. There are some people who never see me before, Nicki Minaj has a young fan base and I will get a chance to tap into that market."

Popcaan Hits Billboard Hip-Hop And R&B Charts

Dancehall artist Popcaan made his debut at #89 on the Billboard Hip-Hop & R&B song charts with the So Unique Records hit single “Only Man She Want.” The song, featured on the Lost Angel Riddim, had been added last month to the playlist of New York’s Hot 97FM and other major radio stations across the US.

Elvis Redwood, CEO of So Unique Records says:
“This is a good look for dancehall and I feel grateful for the hardworking team of Johnny Wonder, Bobby Konders amd Mister Cee who helped to make this song a hit. I just want to thank Vybz Kartel, Popcaan and the whole Portmore Empire for helping to make the riddim such a huge hit, and this is really good news for the industry on a whole, and I will continue to work hard to produce more hits.”

Just last month, Johnny Wonder, executive vice-president of 21st Hapilos Digital, was quoted thanking the New York station “First of all I have to thank Bobby Konders and Mister Cee of HOT 97 for their support; they are always behind us 100 percent and we are thankful. I am also happy with Popcaan’s growing success, both locally and in the international market.

Popcaan’s rep issued the following statement about this achievement**:
“Entering the Billboard Charts is a good achievement and also can help keep international focus on dancehall music. We are happy for this and grateful to all the fans and the industry people working to make it possible. We will keep making songs and working to build on all our success. Big up and respect to dancehall fans worldwide.”

DropWordz Team would like to say congrats to Popcaan on is achievement.

Chris Brown Cell Phone Robbery Case: No Charges Yet, But Investigation Continues

Chris Brown could be in hot water again if a Florida woman's claims that he stole her cell phone prove true.
It remains to be seen if Chris Brown will eventually be charged for allegedly stealing a woman's cell phone in Florida last month.
According to Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, the investigation into the matter remains on going as detectives are continuing to interview witnesses.
"We have taken the statements of our local witnesses and have just finished discussing with the lead Miami Beach Detective the additional witness information supplied by Mr. Brown's attorney Mark Geragos," said Rundle in a statement on Thursday. "We must now interview these individuals, some of whom may be from out of state, just as we do in every criminal investigation in order to uncover the truth in its entirety."
The case in question began on Feb. 19 when, the alleged victim, Christal Spann, 24, told police that after spotting Brown and rapper Tyga leaving the club through a side door, she and her friends followed the artists onto the street. Brown got into a black Bentley as Spann took out her cell phone and snapped a photo of the singer while he sat in his car. At this time she stated that Chris Brown reached through his car window snatched her phone from her hands and yelled, "Bitch, you ain't going to put that on no website," as he reached out the window and grabbed the phone.
No arrests have been made and no warrants have been issued so far in the case, but TMZ reported that the incident is under investigation. According to E! Online, the Florida State Attorney's Office is preparing a warrant for Brown's arrest on suspicion of "robbery by sudden snatching."
Brown is currently on probation until 2014 for his assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna prior to the 2009 Grammy Awards but he could be facing some legal troubles as a result of the Miami episode. On February 9, a Los Angeles judge ordered Brown to continue reporting to a probation officer in his home state of Virginia as part of his five-year probation sentence in the Rihanna assault.

Jay-Z “Deeply Disappointed” over Chris Brown and Rihanna Collaboration

The Drop Wordz team was shock to learn about the collaborative reunion between Rihanna and Chris Brown, were just three years ago he was arrested for assaulting her. This collaborative reunion has caused plenty of discussion among fans, internet and press. But one very important person in Rihanna’s life isn’t pleased with any collaboration (romantic or otherwise) with Chris Brown: RiRi’s mentor and friend, Jay-Z

A sentiment that RiRi’s mentor and friend, Jay-Z is likely to share. According to RadarOnline, the mogul is “deeply disappointed” by the Caribbean singer's decision to spend time with Chris - especially since she sought comfort and advice from him after the 2009 assault. A source close to the situation has revealed:

“Jay was absolutely disgusted by what Chris did to Rihanna. Jay doesn't understand how a man could ever lay hands on a woman; it just goes against who he is and about. Chris is absolutely dead to Jay; he wants nothing to do with him ever. Now that Rihanna is hooking up with Chris and recording songs with him, Jay is deeply disappointed in her actions. He can't fathom why Rihanna is doing the things she is doing.”

Furthermore, Jay-Z is also worried about the effect Rihanna’s actions will have on her fans — many of whom have already questioned her choice to reconnect with the rapper. “He understands the need for forgiveness, but he is adamant that Rihanna shouldn't forget what Chris did to her. Jay wonders what kind of message this is sending to Rihanna's young female fans.”

In addition, Jay is also worried about the effect of this artistic reunion will have on her fans.

“He understands the need for forgiveness, but he is adamant that Rihanna shouldn't forget what Chris did to her. Jay wonders what kind of message this is sending to Rihanna's young female fans.”

Despite their two recent musical collaborations — Brown’s song “Turn Up the Music” and Rihanna’s tune “Birthday Cake” — the source insists that Jay-Z will “never give his blessing for what [Rihanna] is doing with Chris.

What is your opinion on this subject?

Khago Receives Death Threat

Emerging Dancehall/Reggae singjay, Ricardo Gayle aka Khago remains defiant despite receiving an unwelcome message to start the New Year.

On Sunday morning, the internationally acclaimed artiste received a chilling death threat, via phone, from an unknown caller. Khago’s management team intimated that they’re taking said threat very seriously; contacting law enforcement officials to investigate the matter.

Though startled by the threat, the Nah Sell Out singer insists that this incident won’t deter him from continuing his mission to showcase positive songs within what he calls a corrupt music industry.

"Mi get the phone call at about 9 a.m. and the caller say 'p****hole yuh a go dead later' and then hang up the phone,” Khago explained via press release.

He continued, “But dem caan intimidate me, mi ah go continue to do good work and sing songs for the people, too much corruption inna the music business but mi naa back down."

Busy Signal's New Single - Life

Check out this track by Busy Signal its called Life its been out for some time now.. far different from the Bounty Killer recently released called "dem a fish"...perhaps Bounty could use some of the management and guidance that Busy Signal is getting at the moment. This is a nice song and video. Could be a hit for Busy Signal ...dude deserves it ...he has been 'busy' trying hard...(pun intended). Very easy on the ears, far the regular vulgarity of dancehall music (not bashing the music, just saying) and in my opinion its a must have song on your playlist. Check out the New Video and song from Busy Signal - LIFE.

50 cent Threatens Label To Release Another Mixtape

50 Cent Threatens Label To Release Another Mixtape

Fif takes to Twitter to voice his issues with Interscope Records.

Following a year of label woes made public, 50 Cent has taken to Twitter to threaten his label Interscope Records with the release another mixtape. In a series of Tweets, Fif asked his followers if anyone wanted to sign him to a record deal and that he works "harder than everybody in hiphop [sic]."

"I got 3,500,000 views in 3 day on hands up. Ok I need a record deal jimmy iovine , call me early tomorrow or I'm putting out another mix tape," he wrote. "Anybody want to sign me I'm a young hungry artist and I work harder then everybody in hiphop call me tomorrow. Street king energy."

The G-Unit leader has been at odds with Interscope over the delayed release of his untitled fifth album. He said that his longtime label promised to release his single today (Dec. 31st), but was frustrated as he assumed that it was a lie.

Top 10 Albums Of 2011

Welcome our collection of albums were wide this past year and in our eyes these stood out the most. DropWordz Top 10 Albums of 2011 are as follows:

10. Raekwon - Shaolin Vs Wu-Tang

While not on the level of Cuban Linx, Shaolin Vs Wu-Tang was a dope chamber in Raekwon the Chef’s catalog. Feeling the momentum from Cuban Linx II the Wu-Tang Clan’s slang doctor headed back to the studio to cook up a dark kung-fu influenced album with a dash of 2011 flavor. Raekwon solidified his relevance and staying power with Shaolin Vs Wu-Tang almost twenty years after we first heard him rhyme on Protect Ya Neck.

9. J Cole - Cole World: The Sideline Story

Jay-Z protégé J Cole released his long awaited debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story in 2011. The album is a motivational listen about an emcee that believed and achieved. Playing the sideline for a couple of years Cole improved upon his craft and Cole World was the result. Lyrically, J Cole is the best of the bunch of the new era of emcees and he showcased various styles on his debut that made Cole World a cold album.

8. Joell Ortiz - Free Agent

While it leaked in 2010, Joell Ortiz’s sophomore album Free Agent was officially released in 2011. Free Agent is Joell Ortiz at his cocky-Brooklyn-sh*t talking best. On the flipside, Ortiz doesn’t take himself too seriously and isn’t afraid to take chances which makes him affable to listeners. Ortiz is one of the best lyricists on the planet and with help from the likes of Just Blaze, Frank Dukes, Sean C & LV, Large Professor, Nottz, and DJ Premier, Joell Ortiz made one of the best Hip-Hop albums of 2011.

7. Torae - For the Record

Torae’s debut album For the Record is about as solid as it gets. Torae does not spit a wack lyric on For the Record. Each rhyme is well thought out and delivered with precision. For the Record boasts the best cast of producers assembled for any album released in 2011. DJ Premier, Marco Polo, Nottz, Diamond D, Khrysis, Pete Rock, !llmind, Large Professor, and 9th Wonder provide the landscape for Torae to paint his pictures on.

6. Game - The R.E.D. Album

After receiving lackluster reviews for his third album LAX, Compton’s finest, Game came back with a vengeance for his fourth release, The R.E.D. Album. Narrated by Dr. Dre, The R.E.D. Album bangs for the first half of the album and mellows out near the end. Game invites entirely too many guests on The R.E.D. Album but that’s standard for Game. The production on The R.E.D. Album is incredible and lyrically Game sounds hungry like it was 2005.

5. Jay- Z and Kanye West - Watch the Throne

Two of Hip-Hop’s biggest ego’s joined forces in 2011 and warned everyone to watch the throne. Jay-Z and Kanye West put together an album that made listeners think, laugh, and dance. Watch the Throne is far from perfect but it’s an enjoyable listen from start to finish that has a little something for everybody.  Boasting aside, Kanye West has a way of bringing out the vulnerable side to Jay-Z which we never get to hear enough of. On Watch the Throne Hov let it all hang out on tracks like Murder to Excellence, New Day, and No Church in the Wild. For the better part of ten years the Kanye West/Jay-Z combination has been money. In 2011 we thankfully got to hear Ye and Jay in all their glory on Watch the Throne.

4. The Roots - undun

One of the most creative acts in Hip-Hop got even more creative in 2011 with the concept album undun. undun is a short and not so sweet story of a hustler named Redford Stephens. Black Thought, ?uestlove and Co. invited a slew of guests to help out with undun and everyone sounds like crew. While undun is a somber listen you get the feeling that the recording of the album was fun. The vibe and flow of undun is undeniable. As always The Roots returned and made one of the best albums of the year.

3. Hassaan Mackey and Apollo Brown - Daily Bread

Producer Apollo Brown and emcee Hassaan Mackey collaborated on one of the best and most slept-on albums of 2011, Daily Bread. Mackey brings east coast lyricism to Brown’s soulful Midwest chopped samples making Daily Bread a unique listen. Don’t be mistaken, Daily Bread is boom bap at its best. Brown is becoming one of the best producers in Hip-Hop and Mackey’s vocal tone and delivery is on par with some of the best in the business. Daily Bread is the third best Hip-Hop album of 2011.

2. Saigon - The Greatest Story Never Told

Shelved for five years The Greatest Story Never Told was finally told in 2011. Produced by Just Blaze, The Greatest Story Never Told is a cohesive album that’s reminiscent of releases from the golden era of Hip-Hop. Saigon’s conscious street rhymes combined with Just Blaze’s crystal clear yet grimy production made for a perfect marriage. Saigon rhymed for his life on his official debut album, and that’s why The Greatest Story Never Told is one of 2011’s best albums.

1. Common - The Dreamer/The Believer

Coming in at number one on the top 10 Hip-Hop albums of 2011 is Common’s The Dreamer/The Believer. The ninth album from the Chicago native finds him reuniting with former producer and friend No I.D. The two men picked up where they left off in the mid-90’s and crafted a stellar album that combines soulful hooks and choruses with boom bap Hip-Hop beats. Lyrically Common reverted back to his mid-90’s form spitting harder than he’s spit in years. The Dreamer/The Believer is nearly flawless and is the best Hip-Hop album of 2011.

Top 10 Most Popular Hip Hop Singles of 2011

It was an exceptional year, with exceptional songs released but only 10 could have made it here to the top 10 (well of course it could only be 10), so here they are #DropWordzTop10:

1. Jay-Z and Kanye West - Otis
Having this song top the singles for 2011 on HipHopDX right before New Year's Eve is befitting. After all, "Otis" was all about celebration. Jay and Kanye took an Otis Redding sample to new heights and paired it with a video, where they strip down a Maybach and do donuts in it in front of an American flag. How's that for a party? Despite the fact that "H.A.M." (look below) was our first real glimpse into the Watch the Throne project, it was "Otis" that really had the people excited about what Jay-Z and Kanye West collectively had coming.

2. Jay-Z and Kanye West - H.A.M.
Lex Luger brought some out-of-the-box production for Jay and Ye on this one. The song was arguably bigger than the sum of its parts, and succeeded largely based upon curiosity. People had no idea what to expect after this song dropped. However, throw that badboy on at the club and everyone goes "H.A.M. aka "hard as a muthaf**ker."

3. Drake - Marvin's Room
How many times this year have you read "I'm just sayin, you could do better" on social networking sites? This song sparked the "Drake is emo" movement, crafting a song about being drunk and calling his ex-girlfriend. The sobfest carried over into other versions and freestyles. We vote for Jojo's version  as the best one.

4. Young Jeezy featuring Lil Wayne - Ballin
Many moons ago, people thought this track right here was the first look into Young Jeezy's Thug Motivation 103, as he and Lil Wayne stomped all over this track chanting that "ballin" mantra. It never did make it to the album, after it was pushed back so many times. That doesn't take away from its street anthemic value.

5. Dr. Dre featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey - I Need a Doctor
When this song hit the ground, it entered a marathon. Detox was 2010's big tease, but by 2011, it was really starting to look like a reality. Producer Alex Da Kid introduced his dark songstress Skylar Grey to the word, and her breathy vocals make this track so haunting, as Eminem is literally begging Dr. Dre to come back to music. Sorry, Em.

6. Maroon 5 featuring Mac Miller and Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger Remix
"Moves Like Jagger" sans Mac Miller was one of 2011's big deal Pop anthems. However, getting Mac Miller on the remix shoved this cut into the faces of Hip Hop fans, and guess what? They liked it. It also contributed largely to Mac Miller's crossover appeal. That's the reason why your little sister is bumping Blue Slide Park. So, Mac Mill has moves like Jagger too?

7. Game featuring Lil Wayne - RED Nation
Game's The R.E.D. Album had quite a few high points. This song, however, was one of the highest. Taking the "Zombie Nation" techno chants and dropping Lil Wayne in the hook beckoning everyone to "Blood the fuck up" made "RED Nation" the kind of song to get violent to. After all, angry music makes everyone see "red."

8. Eminem - G.O.A.T. (Jay-Z and Kanye West Diss)
This track seemed like it came out of nowhere, and it did. It was pretty old, and for whatever reason, it circulated this past year. Even Eminem himself spoke on the song, stating it was old and just a big venting session about not getting the respect he deserved. That all changed this year, and thankfully nothing became of this quasi-war between three rap stalwarts.

9. Lupe Fiasco featuring Skylar Grey - Words I Never Said
Another win for Skylar Grey, as she added to the intensity of this Lupe Fiasco track. Lupe spent a good long while frustrated with his label, his career, and his music. However, this song off Lasers added to the mainstream value of the project as a whole and brought Lupe right to the top of the charts. Sometimes the words never said go a long way.

10. Dr. Dre featuring Eminem - Die Hard
Yet another floaty in the Detox pool, "Die Hard" paired Dre with Em again on this third look into the album that never was. By the time this track hit, Dre fans were really convinced that Detox was going to happen and Eminem was going to play a huge role in it. Dre is pretty lucky. His presence on this 2011 list shows just how many people still care about his music.
